Northern Italy -
Starring Amarone & Barolo

October 7th to 13th, 2024

We love the Verona and Piedmont regions of Italy where some of our favourite Italian wines are made. Our meeting point is in Verona, Italy’s Wine capital. There is an incredible range of wines from these two very famous wine-producing areas, from light and fruity whites, fresh and fruity reds and the powerful wines of Amarone and Barolo, meant to age for many years.

What you can look forward too

The wine tour begins in Romeo and Juliet’s hometown of Verona. And of course, we start with an historic tour that includes a visit to the famous piazza where the lovers first met. We will stay at a winery hotel and visit our favourite Amarone producers learning about the wines of the Valpolicella. We have to check out Soave; this hillside village gives its name to one of Italy’s best known whites. To top off the day, we will visit a local restaurant where we have experienced one of the best seafood meals of our lives.

The next day we head to the Piedmont, enjoying stunning vistas during the 3-hour drive to the town of Alba. We will arrive for the Alba Truffle festival and learn all there is to know about this most renowned of all truffles. From Alba, we will explore the vineyards found in the villages of Barolo, Barbaresco and Castiglione Falleto. Here Nebbiolo is king; the grape named for the nebbia (fog) for which the region is justly famous. We will taste other local grape varieties including our favourite, Barbera, and if we’re lucky, a little Grignolino. Food experiences will be focused on the elusive and ethereal white truffle - a few paper-thin slices will bless almost every dish. How has this earthy, nutty fungi become one of the world’s most sought-after foods? You will understand after a few days of its distinctive aroma constantly lingering in the air.

Other than the 3-hour drive from Verona to Alba, the distances we cover will be short. The wineries are packed into a fairly small area. Our comfortable tour bus and the amazing vistas will make travel very enjoyable. This will be a 7-day, 6-night experience. Ground transportation, meals, accommodations, and tours and tastings will be covered, as well as a special cooking class and a historic walking tour of Verona.
